Scientific advisory committee meeting
ITANAGAR, Feb 01: The 5th Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Tirap was held at Deomali today.
Chairing the meeting, AK Dubey, DHO, Tirap appealed all the line departments for effective coordination and collaboration in programme implementation. He also requested all the field functionaries and farmers for proper implementation and monitoring of govt. schemes. He advised the farmers to go for citrus on sloppy lands with 30 – 40 % slope and banana orchard in plain land.
Detailed discussion was held on proposed OFT, FLD, training programmes and other extension activities. All the members including farmer representatives have actively participated and put forwarded valuable suggestions for inclusion in the Action Plan.
The Annual Report (April’2012 – Jan’ 2013) and proposed Action Plan (April’2013 – March’ 2014) was approved in the meeting. Discussion was also held on the district contingency plan of Tirap.

ITANAGAR, Feb 1: Banderdewa Police led by OC PS K Dev arrested alleged accused in BDW PS Case No. 03/13 U/S 457/380 IPC Khoda Babu and recovered local ornaments worth Rs 70,00,000 from his possession.
Banderdewa Police swung into action after registering the case following receipt of a written complaint by one Gyammar Sakap of Banderdewa on January 30 and recovered the entire stolen articles and arrested the culprit, City SP Surender Kumer informed in a release.
Also, drugs peddler Issak Narah wanted in c/w Bdw PS c/no 43/12 u/s 21(c)/22/27 of NDPS Act has been arrested by Banderdewa Police. In this instant case, one Diganta Gogoi was already arrested and a huge quantity of ‘narcotropic’ drugs recovered on November 23, the release added.

MLA visits Mangnam village
ITANAGAR, Feb 01: Local MLA and Parliamentary Secretary Jambey Tashi visited Mangnam village in the last leg of his four days tour of his constituency today.
Taking note of the grievances of the villagers, Tashi assured the villagers that their problems would be taken up on priority basis. He requested the departmental heads to serve the citizens with sincerity and dedication.
Addressing in a series of developmental meeting at various villages during the tour, Jambey cautioned the villagers against negative influences causing hindrance to the developmental process.

ITANAGAR, Feb 1: Galo Students’ Union (GSU), while reminding the state government about the Union’s various demands in connection with Goto Yudik murder case, has demanded for handing over the Yudik murder case to SIT immediately.
A team of GSU, which met the DGP at his office at PHQ here today, claimed that the case is not yet handed over to SIT officially as told by the DGP. The DGP, however, assured the team that the investigation will be started as and when the case is handed over to them.
The team comprising executive members of the union also met the Chief Secretary at his office where it learnt from the CS that a team has been constituted to enquire into the role of the District Administration and the Local Organizing Committee of the Galo Bane Keba, the release informed.
While welcoming decision, the Union appealed to the investigating teams to unearth the real fact behind the incident and punish the wrong doers as per law.
It also appealed to each and every member of the Galo community to cooperate with the union in its effort to give justice to late Yudik as well as punish those ‘selfish’ individuals, who maligned the image of the community.

Drive against tinted vehicles continues
ITANAGAR, Feb 1: Continuing its drive against tinted films on car windows, the Capital District Administration today removed around 1000 black/tinted films from vehicle in Capital Complex. At the same time checking drive against bike riders was also conducted and an amount of Rs 36,000 was realized as penulty from the defaulters.

TEZU, Feb 1: Hundreds of Mishmi people clad in their traditional costume gathered
today at Telluliang Rehko ground to celebrate the three-
Every year Reh is celebrated by Idu Mishmi community across the state. This year the three Mishmi tribes – Kaman, Tawra and Idu are jointly celebrating the festival at Tezu.
The purpose of this joint celebration is to kick start the process of Mishmi unification. The ‘unification’, as initially proposed by Rajesh Tacho, Minister, Urban Development is to integrate and bring the three communities closer as ‘One Mishmi’.
Supporting the endeavor to unite all Mishmis, leading political leaders from the community – Mukut Mithi, Rajya Sabha MP, Kalikho Pul, advisor to CM, Karikho Kri, parliamentary secretary, PHE and Laeta Umbrey, MLA Roing also offered their patronage to the joint celebration.
The basis for the endeavor to unite all Mishmis is to preserve the common lineage. Researched documents of British and Indian scholars including the oral narration maintains that majority of Tawra clans and some few Kaman clans trace their ancestry from Idu.
To keep the spirit of unity among all Mishmis, the festival encouraged the usage of ‘Mishmi’ as primary identity over identifying oneself as Idu, Tawra or Kaman.
People also exchanged their traditional Kaman/Tawra and Idu coats to encourage closer integration and develop harmony.
Reh, meaning ‘to invite’ is traditionally celebrated by an individual Mishmi for well being and prosperity of their relatives. In Mishmi society, particularly in Idu community, high regards and importance is given to genealogical relations to maintain the harmony and unity within.
The Reh festival celebrated by the community is to preserve this bonding.
During the celebration, relatives contribute offerings in the form of cash or semi domesticated animals like Mithun or pig. In this year's celebration, voluntary contribution called ‘Agite’ was performed to preserve the common lineage between Tawra, Kaman and Idu.
The voluntary contribution (Agite) to the festival in the form semi domesticated animal ‘Mithun’ was made by Nakul Chai, former MLA, Lupalum Kri, Chief Engineer (PHED), Badang Tayang of Tafragam village, Sollai Tayang, DTO, Tezu and Akene Linggi from Roing.
A souvenir titled ‘Mega Reh Souvenir 2013’ was released by guest of honor Ninong Ering, Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs. The souvenir features select writings of Mishmi academician, social scientists and students. It covers mythological aspects of Mishmi festivals including contemporary challenges in Mishmi society in the face of modernity and the changing social dynamics emerging out of new global trends.
Tezu, the district headquarters of Lohit district is also regarded as the cultural centre of all the Mishmis. To encourage and preserve the rich culture and traditions of Mishmis, the chief guest for the occasion Nabam Tuki, Chief Minister announced for establishment of a Mishmi Cultural Centre at Tezu.
An idea mooted by Tezu MLA Kri, it is a concept where the centre will showcase all cultural aspects of Mishmis that will also facilitate research and act as resource centre of knowledge.

The wait for justice continues

ITANAGAR, Feb 1: 200 days have passed and culprits involved in the July 15, 2012 gun attack on associate editor of this daily Tongam Rina are still at large. The thing that is disturbing the mind of journalist fraternity of state is constant fear that these 200 days may turn into 2000 days and still attackers may not be arrested.
As the days turn into months, the hope that attackers of Rina will be nabbed by police is distinctly looking impossible.
Ever since the incident took place, the Press fraternity of state under the banner of Arunachal Press Club and Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists has been patiently cooperating with police department and state government officials. In the beginning, many organizations and politicians tried to give communal and political colour to the incident. The press bodies along with family member of Tongam Rina strongly resisted such move as by virtue of being journalist Rina is above tribe and religion.
The then SP Capital Hibu Tamang kept us promising that the case will be cracked and we believed in him. Parliamentary Secretary for home Gadam Ete on 22nd July, 2012 in a press release sought cooperation from everyone and claimed that dharnas and protests being held by various groups were hampering the investigation process. People along with Press bodies of Arunachal respected his opinion and accordingly they kept themselves away from dharnas and rallies. But what is the result? I guess, even Parliamentary Secretary for home have no answer.
Chief Minister Nabam Tuki on 21st July 2012 invited Press persons to his office and said that Rina is like his sister and he will ensure that justice be done to her. We trusted his words.
Governor J J Singh on 19th July 2012 met APC and APUWJ delegates and stated that all out efforts are being made to nab the culprit involved in the attack case. We had lot of faith in his words.
The state government told us that they had handed over the case to CBI and that gave us lot of hope. However, since then CBI had refused to take over the case and the case is back to capital police. Now both capital police and state government are evading Tongam shooting case. Despite numerous appeals from time to time, state government did not issue any statement to clear the confusion regarding CBI’s refusal to take over the case.
In the last six months the Press bodies did never see any sincerity from either state government or from capital police to solve the case. In fact many journalists have been told privately by police officials that powerful people are involved in Tongam shooting case and therefore it is tough to investigate.
If the truth regarding Tongam Rina shooting case is not unearthed, the people of Arunachal will make their own conclusion and perhaps that conclusion will be regarded as truth.
The way state government and capital police are behaving at present it seems they are waiting for the day when everyone will forget Tongam Rina case. Hopefully, such days will never come as people of Arunachal can never forget this dark day (July 15, 2012) in the history of Arunachal media when one of most dynamic journalists of state Tongam Rina was attempted to murder.
35 houses gutted at Pipu in East Kameng
ITANAGAR, Feb 1: As many as 35 dwelling houses were reduced to ashes in a massive fire which broke out at about 2 pm on January 31 last, at Jote Cheda village of Pipu Circle in East Kameng district rendering about 200 people homeless.
A pall of gloom has engulfed the entire village – situated in remote corner of the state and away from immediate help and relief.
The incident occurred while the villagers were away into their fields for work. Upon hearing the news of the fire, the villagers rushed to their village only to find their houses gone and properties worth several lakhs, earned through sweat and time, were destroyed in just minutes.

The situation has turned pathetic and worrisome for the children particularly, as families are passing their day and night in chilly winter without proper clothes and food.
“The area is far away and it will take at least a day for us to assess the situation
and damage caused by the fire and also to ascertain its cause,” said one of the members

The Society has shot off an SOS to the Chief Minister for necessary help and compensation to the victims, while also informing that the members of the society will dash off to the incident site.
The Society demanded the government to provide immediate relief such as rice, blankets etc and shelter to the victims. It also demanded construction materials like CGI sheets for quick rehabilitation of the fire victims.
Fire mishap claims ten houses, injures one critically at Dirang

DIRANG, Feb 1: A fire mishap devoured ten houses at famed tourist attraction Sangti village burning down two houses completely and eight partially while also injuring one critically in the wee hours here yesterday. The injured has been identified as Rinchin Ere, who suffered severe spinal burnt injuries. He was rushed to neigbouring Assam for further treatment.
‘The mishap occurred around 11 pm last night after villagers had finished their preparation of ‘khabzees’ or snacks for the upcoming Lossar festival.
Occupants of the buildings could not take out anything from their dwelling houses as they had all fallen asleep and there was also no electricity at that time’, informed Sangti Anchal Samiti Member Nima Dorjee while appealing the state Govt. and District Administration to provide necessary relief materials.
The loss including the burnt ten boulder masonry buildings, cash, local beads, motor vehicles, foodgrains and other edible materials stored for the upcoming festival is estimated to be in crores of rupees.

‘The tragedy is unfortunate in this festive season’, he said.
Dirang General Administration led by Additional Deputy Commissioner D. Riba also pooled in with 10 quintals of rice as immediate relief measure and assured to provide other necessary needy relief measures.
AAPSU holds interactive session with private banks officials
ITANAGAR, Feb 1: All Arunachal Pradesh Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) has organized a special interaction programme with all the private banks of the state today aimed at making a friendly and good relationship between banks and customers as well as encouraging the bankers for effective banking which is crucial for bringing good changes in state’s economy and its people.
Representatives from all the private banks attended the meeting and highlighted their various problems and grievances, including loan recovery. They urged people to know more about the banks and various facilities being extended to the people. Many people are still not aware of many policies/schemes of banks, such as mediclaim, youths account, education loan, housing loan etc. and the AAPSU can play an important role in creating awareness among the masses, said one of the officials.
While responding to the queries of AAPSU, Tridip Talukdar, Branch Manager, ICICI has accepted some inconvenience caused to its customers. Though ICICI bank is second largest private bank in the country it could not open more branches in Arunachal Pradesh due to shortages of infrastructure and the land policies. However, it is planning to set up more branch office in the state within a year or two to extend best service to its valued customers, he said.
All the banks have assured to recruit qualified local candidates in their banks in the state in order to bring more understanding and good communication between bankers and local customers which will benefit both the banks and local people.
The Branch Manager of Axis Bank Prabahan Hazarika informed about the bank’s education loan, housing loan, industry loan etc. Meritorious students who crack recognized examinations like IIT, NIT can avail the education loan, he said adding that there are also loan opportunity for unemployed youths which can be availed through KVIC and DIC. He also informed that every bank has almost same policies under the control of Reserve Bank of India. He also informed about complicacy in availing housing loan in the state because of the state’s land policy.
Several banks official disclosed their inconvenience in issuing of bank loan as most of the beneficiaries do not repay loan on time which affects the smooth functioning of the banks.

AAPSU President Kamta Lapung advised all the bankers to be more honest and build good relations with the public and for that one has to be more sincere in their duty. He believed that the private banks have more energy and capacity to bring all round development in the state and society as whole. There should not be any biasness in extending profitable policies to its customers, he opined since every one has equal right to avail such loan facilities. He assured the bankers that AAPSU will extend all kind of help in making awareness about banks and their policies in future.
While briefing importance of AAPSU, he assured to make private banks more branded in the state in return to their efficient and good service to the people of the state. He further advised all the banks to play a good role for all round development of the state.

At interaction programme, many of AAPSU members shared their experiences during transaction and urged them to improve the facilities. They also informed the bankers about some defunct ATMs causing inconvenience to the customers. The AAPSU urged the banks to execute their works and policies very transparency with effective as it would be benefits for both customers and banks. While highlighting the importance of its uses, MD Tarak Achak informed that Tarak Achak Enterprises Private Limited is being created for employment generation. It will also help the state run Agriculture and Horticulture department as most of the departments, import fertilizer from other states.
‘The motto of the company is to find a solution for organic farming in very low charge and employment generation amongst the youth of the state,” added Tarak.
Acknowledging, the work of concern Enterprises, A K Purkayastha said such endeavor from local entrepreneur will boost the Agriculture and horticulture sector of the state as most of the population in the state are completely dependent on cultivation.
Deputy Director, Horticulture, Narang Tani advised the company to adopt certain farm in and around state capital where the company can truly demonstrate its product.
Terming the Agriculture and Horticulture as future of the state, he said that state government should give importance to these departments and allocate sufficient fund for its development and expansion.

Project affected people demands release of land compensation
ITANAGAR, Feb 1: Lohit Valley Dam Affected Citizens’ Forum has resented the inordinate delay in payment of land compensation falling within Anjaw district acquired for the 1750 MW Demwe Lower HEP project.
“The land compensation amount to the tune of more than Rs 60 crores was disbursed to the land owners of Lohit district on June 21, 2012. Whereas five months have elapsed since section 11 of the Land Acquisition Act 1894 was awarded but the project authorities have failed to pay the land compensation amount of Rs 15 crores only against the community land falling within Anjaw district for the same project,” said the representation submitted to the Chief Minister.

Through your esteemed daily let us once again correct the exact pronunciation of the ‘Nyetshidow’ festival of Hrusso (Aka) tribe which is being celebrated shortly.
For all concerned we would like to make it clear that the correct spelling and pronunciation of the festival is ‘Nyetshidow’ and not other else. Some section of the society is confused on use of ‘tshi’. In this regard it is to clarify that the prefix of ‘t’ is like Tsering or tsao (eating rice) in Aka. “Sh” is pronounced like “shoes” in English, Akash, Krish, Trish etc in Hindi. Our language has lots of words with ‘sh’ like sha (Cane), Shi (Lice), Shio (warm) etc. This ‘sh’ prefixing ‘t’ and suffixing ‘i’ becomes ‘tshi’. Now prefixing ‘Nye’ it correctly spells Nyetshi (Village/Country) in Hrusso.
